What Genre of Music?

Thanks Damian - Yes I think New Age too and as for who I’d go on tour with…probably be me mum  but yes I get your meaning

I did try those kinds of listeners a few years back but unfortunately my stuff is too upbeat for them and they are actually quite difficult to target. Many are not currently working due to Covid. However, as you say might be worth having another go in that area

Hi Community

Me too would like your opinion of the genre of this band I´m trying to help out with pretty much everything. I was in the bands first setup but pretty quickly got them another keyboard player so I instead could focus on recording, audio engineering, producing whatever you call it today… I´m not creating beats wich seem to be what a producer does today?? Enough of me…

What I wonder is wich sub genre of country music is this, it is country, right? I didn’t provide a spotify link. If you like what you are about to hear, you know what to do, head over to spotify, facebook, and follow and all that.

Following is a link to the latest album released… heck, three years ago. We are currently working on follow up singles and have released one, I didn´t include that one because I don´t think it represents them that well and I don´t want to bother you with song sung in swedish. Getting too long winded… here´s the link… https://mixup.audio/playlist/HUPDLPtzxW

Hey Magnus!

I’m not sure which sub-genre, but it’s definitely country and I’d say it airs more on the traditional side rather than Pop-Country. I’d say there’s elements of rock in there too… More importantly than genre is the audience who is going to be listening to it, which I definitely think could have some cross over elements.

What do you think?

Hey Damian, the listeners data from Spotify is pretty clear that their audience to this day is 45+. Just learned the other day though that that data may be severly flawed. Out of the blue they issued a facebook campaign without as it seem any restrictions or plan whatsoever. Then someone put the new single on repeat for several hours… during the campaign. Not the best move. Maybe they have some younger audience, if so, current campaign doesnt show that:D

Genre, you are probably right, somewhere more at traditional. I did try the question from one of your courses on them to try narrowing down where they are at. With whom, living or dead would you like to tour with or share a festival stage. Reply was Johnny Cash and Keith Urban! I laughed out loud, so much for trying to narrow their genre but thinking about it… yeah, somewhere between.

Yeah I get you, to get the most accurate data you need as many streams etc as possible as so many things can skew it.

Id recommend doing a fb video views campaign (with a music video or something similar) with no call to action, and set it to a wide audience and let the data guide you on who is watching the most.

Somewhere inbetween is always awesome, just gotta find that pool of people!

I make guitar-based rock instrumentals. All these songs are ABOUT something though, and are definitely inspired by events in my life, or general inspirations.

These are a mix of lighter and heavier songs, in both major and minor keyes (see what i did there?)

here’s the latest one, which is a definitely has a comedic vibe. I was thinking about politics at the time, and how everything seems to be worse no matter who is in charge. this is my “shoulders shrug” to that whole situation

Hey gang!

First time poster on the forum! Loving the community so far :v:t2:

I’ve got a new track dropping next month that I figured was in the alternative/dark-pop genre, but I gotta say I’ve been having a tough time landing placements (its been amazing feedback, but playlisters + bloggers have said its too “x” for their channels). Am I picking the right genres, or should I be chasing other types of alt/pop channels?

Much love! x

Hey bro,

Really like the tune!! I would say you’re on the right lines, I’d say it’s more pop and less alternative.

What do you reckon?

Love that - getting Van Halen vibes crossed with a bit of Satch!

Hey everyone! I’ve been trying to figure out what sub-genre I am so I can better target an audience. My influences include hard rock, thrash and groove metal, punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, and southern rock.

The songs in my spotlight are the ones I’m most satisfied with, but I’m still trying to figure out how to get good mixes so I apologize for the amateur sound

Also, the one showing up in the embed link is probably my best production, but I definitely need to redo the vocals as they’re extremely pitchy, ie bad

Hey bro!

I would say alt rock, it’s a cross between Daughtry and Alter Bridge. That might be me because I love Daughtry!

What do you think?

Hey, thanks for listening! I agree that the one in the embed link, maybe grunge or post-grunge as well.

The other ones in my spotlight are a little more aggressive though, and I’m not sure they’d fit in the same category. Although I’m pretty bad at objectively categorizing my music because I know all the influences that went into it

Yeah got you.

I would go for an overarching niche rather than something really specific then

Hi everyone my name is Daniel Barrie and I’m a singer songwriter from the Midlands UK. I currently play solo live being my vocals and acoustic guitar but have more instruments on my tracks e.g. bass, drums, electric guitar and piano.
I’m am currently struggling to specify what my genre my music is? The term singer songwriter is so general.
Please could you let me know any ideas.
Thanks

Hey Daniel,

I just gave your songs a listen. For me, I was getting a country/folk vibe from Lay Me Down and X On the Board. Curtain Falls felt more indie rock, with Fool’s Love feeling more toward the rock end of the indie rock spectrum. I’m not sure this helps narrow it down so well for you, though! Maybe others will have something more helpful :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks so much for your constructive feedback. It’s a big help
Cheers

Hey Daniel!

I’m definitely getting folk vibes from Lay Me Down because of the 12/8 feel and the way the vocals are laid across it. There’s also some indie pop vibes too.

Thanks Damo,appreciate your comments
